“Pass the Stuffing”
One of my favorite side dishes during any holiday is stuffing. Some people call it dressing, some people call it stuffing. I call it good food! Here is a simple recipe for simple stuffing. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
– 1 loaf of day-old bread, cut into cubes (about 10 cups)
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter
– 1 large onion, diced
– 2-3 celery stalks, diced
– 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon dried sage
– 1 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– 2-3 cups chicken or vegetable broth
– Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake until slightly crispy, about 15-20 minutes. Remove and set aside.
2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions, celery, and garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
3. Stir in the dried sage, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute to let the flavors meld together.
4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes with the sautéed vegetable mixture. Pour in enough broth to moisten the stuffing, starting with 2 cups and adding more as needed. The bread should be moist but not soggy.
5. Transfer the stuffing into a baking dish. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
6. Once done, garnish with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color and added flavor.
This stuffing pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry or as a side dish for any hearty meal!
