That’s why you are here. You are looking for some ideas to make that change and we have the ideas, tips and tricks to help you. So let’s dive right in and get to it.
This isn’t going to be a gym membership and not every recipe is going to be perfectly healthy for you but this is to get you started. Time for part 1 of living that better life. Why didn’t I say best life? Oh that’s easy to answer, we are always trying to improve and improve those around us.
Here are 2 tips to get started!
Tip Number 1: Get a partner!
One of the best ways to stay accountable is to get a partner. If you are going to get healthy, why not have someone to do it with. Amelia Boone the world famous Obstacle Course Racer (Tough Mudder, Spartan Race) once said, “I am not the strongest. I am not the fastest. But I am really good at suffering.” Yes this is not going to be an easy journey, so have someone that is going to help keep you accountable and want to do things with you. So as a challenge look up local 5k races. I know what you are thinking, “I hate running”. Good, you will hate it as you are suffering through all 5k of it. The best part is you will do it with someone. You don’t need to be fast, you just need to finish. Want to walk the first 3k, no problem. Then run the last part. If people ask you how many you have done and you say this is your first one, they are going to tell you to just finish the race. When you see them at the finish line I can almost guarantee they cheer for you. So put the money down on a simple race and get out there and start preparing for it. Also make sure to get a pair of sneakers for your race and get them broken in weeks before the race. New Balance or Asics are great in my opinion.
Tip Number 2:
Go Hiking! Take that accountability partner from your first tip and tell they you want go hiking. Where should you go? There are so many, state, county and local parks that you can hike around. Hiking doesn’t mean you are going up and down hills all the time, it just means you are not waling on the same old sidewalk around the neighborhood. Now don’t get me wrong, that isn’t a bad things especially if you are just starting off. The huge benefits of hiking are you are out in nature breathing fresh air, the walking part is huge for your cardiovascular system and if you hike with a friend you are bound to have great conversation. Make sure you have a great pair of hiking shoes and comfy socks. I personally recommend Merrlll shoes and Darn Tough socks.
