Start the Week Right!

Many people have a hard time sleeping on Sunday night due to the weekend is over, some tasks might not have been accomplish, but mostly because the long work week is beginning again. The stress many feel unconsciously effects how we perform our day to day tasks. Here are a few tips to get through your week, reduce stress and make each day a little bit better.

Imagine you have a huge report to the board on Tuesday. It’s Monday and you are feeling the stress of standing and giving information that is pertinent to the companies success.  One idea to deal with this stress is something Navy SEALS do and that is to use mental imagery and rehearsal to prepare for a challenging scenario. So for a plan and visualize being in the room. Think of questions people might ask and prepare for them, Even go as far when asked a question and say, “Thanks, that’s a great question, and here is your answer.” Visualize succeeding and this will help reduce stress by enhancing mental readiness.

If you feel stress coming on, take a brisk walk or some sort of physical activity to get the heart pumping. Your body will release endorphins, which as we know are huge stress relievers. Even if this means running up and down a few flights of stairs to get the old ticker going, do it. 

Lastly, slow down your breathing with some deep breaths to help activate your body’s relaxation response. To begin, inhale deeply through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. Repeat this a few times and think about succeeding and making the best of the moment.

Remember that you control your stress, it does not control you. Using these tips daily can help you succeed and make the best of each day. You got this!
