Mental Health Monday!

July 8, 2024

It’s time to start the week with some positive focus on good mental health and set the tone for the days ahead of us. To keep it simple here is three effective ways to promote good mental health and get after it this week!

Mindfulness and Meditation

Try and begin your week with mindfulness practices or meditation. (I know you think mediation might be boring but it works!) Spending even a few minutes in quiet reflection can help reduce stress (which we want), improve focus (which we need), and increase overall well-being (which we ultimately desire).

Practice Deep Breathing: Take a few minutes each morning to engage in deep breathing exercises. Inhale deeply for a count of four, hold for four, and exhale for four. This can help calm your mind and body.

Guided Meditation: Use a meditation app like Aura or online resources to follow a guided meditation. This practice can help you clear your mind and start the week with a sense of peace and clarity. Don’t start your week off stressed, it’s summertime, which means its time to relax a bit.

Physical Activity

Incorporating physical activity (even a simple walk) into your routine can greatly benefit your mental health. Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters and who doesn’t want to be in a good mood at the start of the week.

Morning Exercise: Start your day with a workout, (Yes this mean you actually might have to get up a bit earlier but it will be worth it. Whether it’s a run, a yoga session, or a simple walk or if you really want a challenge go swimming. This can boost your energy levels and improve your mood for the rest of the day.

Stretching and Movement Breaks: If a full workout isn’t feasible, take short movement breaks throughout the day (think walking up and down stairs in that big office building). Stretching or a quick walk can help reduce tension and refresh your mind. You can also listen to a podcast (The Lost Meander is a great one if I might say so myself or go back to the Aura app.

Positive Affirmations and Goal Setting

Setting positive intentions and goals for the week can help create a sense of purpose and motivation.Remember small goals build to larger ones. Don’t make them too challenging but enough to push yourself.

Daily Affirmations: Begin each day with positive affirmations. Repeat statements like “I am capable,” “I am worthy,” or “I can handle whatever comes my way.” This can help build self-confidence and reduce negative thoughts. Negative thoughts create stress which is what we are tying to get rid of in our lives!

Weekly Goals: Set realistic and achievable goals for the week (as mentioned before).  Breaking them down into small, manageable tasks helps us get those small wins which become big wins by the end of the week. This can give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you focused. I know we mentioned staying focused is a good thing.

By incorporating mindfulness, physical activity, and positive affirmations into the start of your week, you can create a foundation for good mental health. These practices can help reduce stress, increase your sense of well-being, and set a positive attitude for the days ahead. Plus others will notice and it become contagious. Soon everyone will see the difference and want what you have, so get out there and get started today!
